“Crown of Thorns is a deeply moving poetry collection that feels both intimate and universal. Brianna Kilcrease takes readers through an emotional journey of innocence, heartbreak, trauma, resilience, and ultimately healing with remarkable honesty and vulnerability.“ – Vilian (Goodreads Review)
“With her second poetry collection, Bri continues to invite the reader to find connection and acknowledgement of love and love gone wrong, abuse, betrayal, hope, and healing.
I’ll let you explore the poems on your own, but I’ll mention that my favorite one was “Snakebites,” because I’m in a mood and I love the angry poet that has words for an ex lover. Some of my favorite lines were in “Grandview,” with “that’s how I became/a beginning shaped like/an end”. I underlined that one three times. The imagery was just so present in my mind. And in the poem “Nosebleed,” where a lover’s betrayal creates so much physical stress that it causes a spontaneous nosebleed, “I loved you enough/to fight for us/while you couldn’t even tell me/the battle was already over”.
“Crown of Thorns” is a journey of wanting to be known and wanting to belong, and Bri is reaching out to connect with readers who have experienced the same. We’re invited to see ourselves in her innocence, her trials, and her resolve to move on and be more than what has happened to her.“ – Jem Spears (Romance Author)
