There is only one word to describe this movie: EPIC. The music: epic. The acting: epic. The plot/quest: epic. The fight scenes: epic. I actually went into this semi blind I just heard it was good and had a vague idea of what The Odyssey by Homer was about. I decided this would be my first movie in theaters I saw by myself and bought the 2nd to last ticket for the entire IMAX theater. It was so packed I missed the opening scene to get my concessions and had to sit between two strangers.
One part made me jump which was embarassing, and I absolutely refused to cry unlike the guy to my left who I could hear crying at the end. I didn’t know the actor line up or anything ahead of time. I love Tom Holland in this and Matt Damon. The acting was incredible, the music score was phenomenal. The fight scenes had the best music to make it even better.
The end of the movie was so tense and amazing I literally was like, “Yeah!” and people were clapping as stuff happens, I won’t spoil it. I really enjoyed seeing Circe, Calypso, the sirens and other mythological entities in the film and their take on it. Seeing the fall of Troy and what that did to Odysseus was very interesting.
Overall this movie made my mood go from sad earlier today to pretty happy. Odysseus really cared for his men and wanted them all to live. He kept trying to defy the gods to make it happen, despite also caring highly about Zeus’s law and trying to obey the gods at the same time.
The only way for him to get back home was to let go of control and trust the gods. I think I’ll have to try that in my own life and see how it goes.
